MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. — Charles Fischer, 88, died at Cape Canaveral Hospital in Merritt Island, Fla., April 22.
Mr. Fischer was a resident of Rumford from 1955 to 1990, where he served as the manager of maintenance for Boise Cascade Paper Co. and in other capacities in his more than 30 year career there.
Mr. Fischer grew up in Irvington, N.J., and graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from Rutgers University. He served as lieutenant in U.S. Army during World War II, where he was stationed in Germany. Prior to making Rumford his home, he worked for General Electric in Lynn, Mass. He married Helen Fischer, his wife of 62 years in 1948. He was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his wife and his four children, David Fischer of Lewiston, Patrice Fischer Johnson of Gatlinburg, Tenn., Beth Fischer of Denver, Colo., and Susan Fischer Fusco of Deerfield, N.H.; and 11 grandchildren.
