LEWISTON — The Maine Public Broadcasting Network has announced that Nicola Wells of Lewiston has been elected to its board of trustees.

“The Board of Trustees has overall governance and fiduciary responsibilities for the organization,” said board chairman Henry L. P. Schmelzer. “Trustees are elected for various reasons, such as their community networks or certain expertise — but foremost, each member must have a passion for and a commitment to public television and radio for Maine. Nicola Wells brings these qualities to the MPBN Board in abundance and will be a tremendous asset to MPBN.”

Wells is a graduate of Swarthmore College and the current state director of the Maine League of Young Voters Education Fund/League of Young Voters. She has an extensive background in civic engagement both locally, nationally and internationally. As regional field director for the Center for Community Change, she created state-based action teams and executed organizing plans in several states, including Maine. She interned for Rep. Melissa Bean in Washington in the communications department and was a program assistant/researcher for S.O.S. Racisme, National Headquarters in Paris, France.
