JAY — A local man was charged Wednesday night with breaking into a barn on East Dixfield Road and stealing a Geiger counter, tools and gun clips.

Officer Russell Adams arrested Jeston L. Davis, 20, of 72 East Dixfield Road on charges of felony burglary and misdemeanor theft, Jay police Chief Larry White Sr. said in a news release Thursday.

Warrants were being obtained Thursday for two other men believed to be involved, he said.

The property that was burglarized was a barn that had items stored in it,” White said. Taken were a Geiger counter, tools and gun clips valued at more than $1,000, he said.

When Adams responded to the 9:50 p.m. call, the suspects had left, because they had access to a police scanner, White said. Adams talked with neighbors, leading him to a nearby home with items lying outside that the occupants said were not theirs.

Franklin County Sheriff Cpl. Nate Bean and his tracking dog, Diesel, were led to Davis, with whom Adams was talking, White said. Adams arrested him a short time later.

Davis remained at Franklin County jail in Farmington early Thursday afternoon. His bail was set at $500 cash or a pretrial service agreement, transport officer Cpl. Albert Smith said.

The incident remains under investigation.
