FARMINGTON — Marita E. Ripley Smith Littlefield, 83, born to Eva Moores and Stanley Abbott Ripley, passed from this world to her heavenly home on April 20.

Born on Sept. 16, 1928, she was raised in Caribou and Rockland.

She married the first love of her life, Kenneth V. Smith Sr., and had one son, Charles W.

She worked at the Heel Mill and JL Coombs until her first husband became sick and she stayed home to care for him. Along with taking care of the neighborhood children when needed, she tied flies for L.L. Bean.

After Kenneth passed, she returned to nursing school in Waterville to be able to do what she did best, “taking care of people.” She began her career in nursing at Franklin Memorial Hospital and at the Sandy River Nursing facility in Farmington.

In 1980, she married the second love of her life, Benjamin W. Littlefield. With Ben, the travel bug bit and the traveling began. They spent 18 winters in Spain and often traveled to India to be with family.
