Joining them on the benefit bill will be Chase the Fiddlers, an acoustic ensemble playing traditional New England, Celtic, and French-Canadian dance music. The fiddlers are led by the well-known Greg Boardman, who teaches applied music at Bates College.
“With this concert” said Turner Public Library Trustee Anthony Shostak, “we provide popular entertainment consistent with small-town living, and a chance to help the local library. Unaccompanied harmony singing is widely popular, and has been a tradition for generations.”
Paula Anderson, founder of the Music for Mavis Community Gazebo named in honor of her mother, said “These groups are top notch. We are deeply grateful that they will be sacrificing their time and donating their skill and passion to help us.”
There is no set fee for admission to the benefit concert. “This is a fundraiser to assist the library in meeting the rising costs of providing services for an ever-growing number of patrons, and to help the gazebo with its programming and maintenance,” said Shostak. “We hope those who attend will be mindful of how much a concert of this caliber in Portland or beyond might cost and be generous with their donations.”
