BUCKFIELD — The Board of Selectmen decided Tuesday night to continue having rescue personnel clean the municipal building and the rescue department weekly.

The cleaning budget for the coming fiscal year is proposed to go up $461, from $1,389 to $1,850, Town Clerk Cindy Dunn said. The number of hours would double from two to four weekly so more work is done.

Rescue personnel are paid $8 an hour to clean.

Dunn, filling in for interim Town Manager Dana Lee who was out sick, showed a proposal from a private cleaning service that was considerably more than what the town spends.

Selectman Robin Buswell asked if the office staff had time to clean. Dunn said she doesn’t.

Selectman Robin Buswell motioned to keep the cleaning arrangement as is and it passed.

Buswell publicly thanked Hartford road commissioner Jeremy Johnson for helping with traffic control after heavy rains caused washouts on Bear Pond Road.

The road report noted ruts in the Buckfield-Damon cemetery would be fixed, pending availability of good loam, and the vandalized vault door had been fixed.

In other business the board:

* Accepted, with regret, the resignation of Chris Reed from the Recreation Committee due to time restraints. Hotham made a plea for new people to apply for the committee, which has only a few members.

* Learned from Dunn that the state’s usual 50 percent reimbursement for General Assistance may be reduced, so the town will be carrying more of the load.

* Approved the rescue department’s request for $700 from their clothing and turnout gear reserve to buy new pants and shirts so members can be more uniform in dress and easier to identify.

* Voted to go have Constellation Energy deliver electricity to save the town at approximately $600 a year.

* Voted to have the town manager and fire chief work on a fireworks ordinance.
