JMG students to receive awards

LEWISTON — Jobs for Maine’s Graduates Students will award $3,200 in grants to local nonprofits at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 4, at the Lewiston Regional Technical Center, 156 East Ave.

The awards will go to 130 LRTC high school students who are members of three Jobs for Maine’s Graduates classes.

JMG students will award “big check” grants totaling $3,200 to six local nonprofits that successfully competed for the funds through the Jumpstart Our Youth Philanthropy program, including Tree Street Youth Program, Kora Shriners of Lewiston, Lewiston High School STEP program, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Androscoggin and Oxford Counties, Skills USA Maine and Lewiston Public Library.

All-Music Service in Auburn Sunday

AUBURN — The First Universalist Church of Auburn will present an All-Music Service at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 6. This annual service celebrates the spirituality of music.

Over a dozen musical offerings will be made from congregation members and friends, including the Auburn UU choir, choir director Dave Rowe and organist Phil House. The public is welcome to enjoy this musical worship service.

Interfaith Forum continues

AUBURN — The Interfaith Forum continues its spring series with a visit to the Church of Christ, Scientist (Christian Science) on Sunday, May 6, at 3 p.m. The church is at 79 Lake St. At the rear of the building is a handicap entrance. For more information contact Pat Gavula at 777-1200.

Golden Age Group dinner

AUBURN — The Golden Age Group of the IHM Parish will meet at 11 a.m. for a social hour, Tuesday, May 8. The anniversary dinner of stuffed, baked chicken will be served at noon at the United Methodist Church on Park Street. Cost $12. Reservations may be made by calling 576-4082 by May 6. New members are also welcome to make reservations ahead.

Historical show, tell

LISBON FALLS — The Lisbon Historical Society hosted its annual Show and Tell Antiques Night on April 11 at the MTM Center. There were more than 30 displays and a variety of interesting stories to go with them.

Items included a 1912 memorial edition of “The Sinking of the Titanic – Thrilling Stories told by Survivors” shared by Madeline Junkins; a 1799 edition of “The Duties of Town Officers – Bylaws and Punishments” by Merton Ricker; a 1901 arithmetic book by Peggy Cote; and a beautifully framed commemorative document of Sue Poliquin’s great-great-grandfather, Elbridge G. Coolidge, a Civil War soldier who served with the 29th Maine.

John Baumer, Frank Anicetti, Luella Merryman, Erma Smith, Jo-Jean Keller, Alfred Smith, Dorothy Smith, Anita Guay and others also added to the excitement of the evening with stories and artifacts of the past.

The Lisbon Historical Society is at the MTM Center, 18 School St., and is open Thursday’s from 1 to 4 p.m. Meetings are held monthly on the second Wednesday beginning at 7 p.m.. Free and open to the public.

GREENE — The annual meeting of the Valley Cemetery Association will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, May 7, at the home of John Fogg.

Dempsey Center workshop on Tuesday

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center is offering a free workshop for anyone interested in making positive changes in their life. ‘Turning Over New Leaves’ will take place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, at CMMC, 12 High St., in conference room I.

Wellness Educator Marcy Covey will teach practical ways to make small changes that can have a big impact on physical and emotional health.

Christian Academy open house on Tuesday

LISBON FALLS — Lisbon Falls Christian Academy will host an Open House from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8.
