LEWISTON — The Androscoggin Historical Society, responding to requests to explore more local history, will lead a walking tour of historic houses on Main Street in Lewiston on Saturday, May 5. The tour begins at 10 a.m. in the parking lot behind the medical building at 287 Main St.

Historical Society members will share information about notable residents of 13 buildings, including several that are included in the National Register of Historic Places. The tour will not go inside the houses.

The total walk is almost 1.5 miles, from the corner of Sabattus and Main streets up to Ware Street and back. There are no hills. The rain date is Sunday, May 6. Remember: bring a camera.

The size of the group is limited and early registration is encouraged. Prepaid registration of $10 is required before 4 p.m. on Friday, May 4, at the AHS office, located on the third floor of the County Courthouse at the corner of Court and Turner streets in Auburn. An elevator is available. The Society office is open Wednesday to Friday from 1:30 to 5 p.m.; phone 784-0586.
