The last few weeks have been busy ones for the “Mayflower King.” Who is this “Mayflower King,” do you ask? He is Elmer E. Mitchell of Lisbon and he has had a business selling Mayflowers for the past two or three years. He knows where they grow. He is on hand for the very first blossoms. He knows how to pick them and he knows how to prepare them in small bunches for sale. Many times since April 20 he has been in town selling hundreds of bunches of the Mayflowers.

After six months of planning, the only item unaccounted for in Saturday’s Maine State Parade is plenty of sunshine for the 3,000 participants. Nearly 120 groups are expected to march through downtown Lewiston in the fourth annual parade. There will be 15 high school bands, three drum and bugle corps, eight color guards, 45 floats, 12 groups of clowns, 15 equestrian clubs, and 19 antique cars. More than 15,000 people are expected to line Main Street when the parade leaves from the Bates College area at noon.
