- Six-day-old Miles Hatch holds his father’s finger at the Advocates for Children Parent Resource Center in Lewiston. Miles was born on Dec. 23, 2011, to Rachel and Jason Hatch.
- Steve Dubois is a regular at the John F. Murphy Homes dinner at Lewiston Middle School. Disc jockey Ernie Gagne says the JFM resident always comes to the dinner and dance well prepared. During this year’s event, held each April by the school’s student council, Dubois brought his own music selections for Gagne to play. Whitesnake, Ratt, Kiss, Def Leppard and the Beatles are the CDs that Dubois brought with him.
- Auburn elementary students each made an “Art Is” panel during the spring of 2012. Hundreds of panels were attached to the next, creating a traveling mural. Students wrote things like “Art is a musical instrument that can play any song” and “Art is better than chocolate.” Fourth-grader Christian Hiscock wrote: “Art is TNT (Dynamite).”
- “She’s my little hippie,” Rey Caron said about his 6-year-old daughter Becka Caron of Auburn. The first-grade student at Walton Elementary was visiting the 100 Pine St. Wellness and Recovery Center’s fourth annual block party in downtown Lewiston last September.
- “Thirty-five is the top speed, going downhill with a tailwind,” said Christine Schwartz, the director of dining services at Bates College in Lewiston. The E-Ride electric car is one of two zero-emissions vehicles Bates uses for delivering and picking up food within three miles of campus. The E-Ride and the GEM (Global Electronic Motorcars) replaced two catering vans that ran on fossil fuels. Schwartz said she kept one gasoline-burning van for deliveries that require her to travel more than 35 mph.
- Taylor Pratt and 20 of her Lewiston High School teammates received rings after winning the State Cheerleading Championship for the second year in a row on Feb. 11, 2012. Engraved on each ring is the athlete’s first name, the words “Back to back” and the word “Control,” which was the team’s motto that head coach Lynnette Morency preached day in and day out. The Blue Devils went on to win the New England Championship on March 17.
