Signs of Spring in Lewiston Auburn … This “rainy spell” is good for the gardens. Runabouts of all colors of the rainbow are dodging through the streets. The “cleaning up” of Lake Grove, in readiness for the summer season, will soon be commenced. Children are gathering great, fat earthworms and selling them to the anglers at “two for a cent.” School teachers are making their annual sprint after “kids” who are hanging them Maybaskets. Folks who dote on dandelion greens are eating their fill these days.

Both the Maine Public Utilities Commission and the Civil Aeronautics Board in Washington are investigating the Northeast Airlines schedules limousine service for Lewiston to Portland, it was learned today. Laurier T. Raymond Sr., chairman of the Lewiston-Auburn Airport Committee, said that the committee “is very disturbed by the Northeast advertised limousine service to Portland.” He said, “This is another move by Northeast Airlines to suspend flights to and from Lewiston-Auburn.”

The National Council on the Arts has rejected a joint application from Lewiston and Auburn for a $39,500 grant to fund the first phase of a riverfront development study. The proposed project included an examination of alternative uses for land along the river. In the second part of the study, the cities would sponsor a competition for architects and landscape designers.
