MEXICO — Oxford Federal Credit Union named Michael Madore as the first recipient of the Tony Poirier Volunteer Service Award. OFCU held their 74th annual meeting on April 18 at Mountain Valley High School, where Randy Hotham, current chairman of the board, presented the award.

The award is named for Joseph Antonio “Tony” Poirier, who served the members of OFCU for 45 years, including 43 years as chairman of the board of directors. During that same time, Poirier served on as many as seven other boards, serving as the chairman on four of them. Upon his retirement, he was appointed director emeritus at OFCU, a position he still holds, giving him more than 51 years of service to the credit union.

OFCU’s CEO, Matt Kaubris said, “Tony worked diligently as a volunteer for Oxford Federal Credit Union. His dedication, foresight and decision making abilities have had a lasting and positive impact in the success of the credit union and the community.”

The award recognizes those who volunteer their time and talents to making the service area communities in Oxford Country a better place to live, work and raise a family. It is with Poirier’s outstanding record of service in mind that the award was named in his honor.

Poirier was unable attend the meeting; he was represented by his wife Lillian, his sister Yvette Gallant, his daughters Louise Stickney and Connie Venskus, his son Phil Poirier and Phil’s guest Heidi. The credit union presented Lillian with a bouquet of roses as a token of their appreciation to the Poirier family.

Madore currently serves as the board’s vice-chairman and previously held the position of chairman of the board. Upon accepting the award he said, “To be given an award named after Tony, as a symbol of his commitment and contribution to volunteering in our community, is humbling. I am proud and deeply honored to be recognized with this award and promise to continue to live the mission and vision of the credit union now and in the future.”
