PERU — Maurice Brann told selectmen Monday night that teens are parking in the turnaround at the old dump on Pleasant Street and leaving litter behind.
“I”m tired of cleaning up trash,” said Brann, who lives next to the property.
Board Chairman Tim Holland told Brann he would report the activity and officials will check the area.
The board approved a tree growth application renewal for Hofeldt/Burkley for 227 acres and a building permit for a playhouse and a chicken coop for Nicole Blanchard on Dickvale Road. Members agreed to pursue a committee to work on a town seal.
Selectmen scheduled a public hearing on the annual town meeting warrant for Monday, June 4, at 6 p.m. The location has not been decided.
Tax Collector Vera Parent reported she mailed 11 letters to delinquent taxpayers and all but two had replied.
The board voted to have Parent move on the foreclosures.
Selectman Ed Ferland asked Holland to inspect the properties, which are in Murray Cove Campground, before the letters a sent. Holland said he would.
Resident Marie Eastman asked Parent how much money was involved in delinquent taxes.
Parent said about $140,000.
“Maybe these people need to let their homes go if they can’t meet the taxes, because the town needs the money,” Eastman said.
The board was told that the railroad spray program began Monday and continues to May 26. The spraying will be done along rights of way of tracks.
Holland announced the town’s spring cleanup is under way through Saturday, May 26. Metals, appliances, roofing shingles, building debris will be accepted at the transfer station for free. Four car or pickup tires per household will also be accepted.
Residents may also dispose of wood 12 feet or shorter, flooring, wiring, insulation and pressure treated wood up to 4 feet long.
No household hazardous waste will be accepted during cleanup.
There will be RSU 10 informational meetings on the 2012-13 budget at 6:30 p.m. May 22 at the Buckfield Town Office, May 23 at Dirigo High School in Dixfield, and May 24 at Mexico Town Hall.
The districtwide budget vote will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 31.
