AUBURN — Rolande Fouquette, 87, a lifelong resident of Lewiston, died on May 7, at the Hospice House of Auburn.

She was born Aug. 1,1924, the daughter of Armandine Cote and Emile Breton. She attended local schools. She was the oldest of three children and spent much time helping to care for her younger brother and sister.

On Sept. 15, 1945, she married Nelson Fouquette at Holy Cross Church in Lewiston. It was a true love story of marrying the boy next door. They lived almost all of their married years at 25 Arcadia Ave., Lewiston. Rolande took great pride in her home and was always happy to be living in her home parish of Holy Cross Church. She took great joy in receiving the eucharist as long as she could.

After 16 years of marriage, she gave birth to their only child, Paul. She excelled at being a good mother and spent as much time as possible making sure he had everything he needed. She worked for many years as a fancy stitcher, but became a stay at home mom when Paul was born. She took great pride and joy in every one of Paul’s accomplishments over the years. Her gift of sewing was continued with quilt making, knitting, needlework and crocheting.

Rolande loved to travel with Nelson and his brother and sister-in-law Normand and Lorraine. They enjoyed cruises together as well as a trip to Las Vegas. They loved spending vacations at Androscoggin Lake, fishing and spending time with extended family.

In 1987, Rolande and Nelson’s first grandchild, Daniel was born. She always said she was watching Paul grow up all again by watching Dan. Her granddaughter, Angela was born in 1991. She loved spoiling her with girlie things.

As the years progressed, Nelson died of Alzheimer’s disease on Sept. 9, 2004. Rolande took care of him even while the disease had become very difficult. Immediately after his passing, she began her own, eight-year decline with Alzheimer’s. It has been a difficult journey but she has left us with the memories of being a wonderful wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She will be in our hearts forever.

She is survived by her son, Paul, and daughter-in-law, Terry, of New Gloucester; her grandchildren, Dan of Portland and Angie of Castine; her brother, Joseph Breton and wife, Pauline, of Durham, Conn.; brother-in-law, Bob Gagne of New Hampshire, Norman and Lorraine Fouquette of Windsor Locks, Conn., and Georgette Fouquette of Greene; and many nieces and nephews, whom loved her dearly.

Paul and Terry would like to thank all of the angels at Clover Manor’s Galway Place. The family was lucky to have Rolande taken care of by such caring and wonderful staff. We would also like to thank Dr. Austin of the Hospice House for being a wonderful guide with both parents’ end of life journey.
