Wildflower walk

CASCO — A spring wildflower walk will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at Loon Echo’s Mayberry Hill Preserve.

Jon Evans, Loon Echo’s stewardship and volunteer coordinator, will lead the 1.2-mile hike over easy terrain. Hikers should plan accordingly for weather conditions (trail may be slippery due to wet spring conditions) and meet at the Mayberry Hill trailhead at 9 a.m. Wear appropriate layered clothing, boots with good tread and bring water and snacks. The hike is appropriate for most children. Plan on spending 1.5 hours on the hike.

To get to Mayberry Hill Preserve, take Route 121 into Casco village and turn right onto Mayberry Hill Road. Follow to the top of the hill and turn left. The preserve is a short distance on the right. Park alongside the road.

‘Animals Week’ fundraiser

NORWAY — In celebration of “Be Kind to Animals Week,” Responsible Pet Care Shelter and Adoption Center is holding a toll booth fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 12, on Fair Street.

Other activities include an open house from noon to 4 p.m. with continued “nifty fifty” adoption opportunities and a month-long invitation for children to submit artwork that will be entered into a drawing for prizes. For more information call 743-8679.

‘Mud Season Movies’

BETHEL — Beginning on Wednesday, May 16, at 2 p.m., and thereafter on every other Wednesday through June 27, the Bethel Historical Society will present a series of free films on a variety of subjects, including farming, fishing, logging and lumbering.

These “Mud Season Movies,” lasting about one hour, will be shown in the Robert Chadbourne, Jr., Room at the Society’s Robinson House, 10 Broad St. They will be introduced by Bethel Historical Society trustee Dick Hale, retired University of Maine forestry professor, or a BHS staff member.

One of the first films to be featured will be the recently released “In The Blood: Uncovering the Life, Skills & Character of the Turn of the Century Maine Lumbermen and River Drivers.” Produced in 2011, this film illustrates and celebrates these individuals — their character, ethics and history — with stunning photography, vintage film footage, interviews and a compelling soundtrack.

Online job hunt

PARIS — The WMCA CareerCenter will host a workshop on online applications from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 16.

Community potluck supper

WATERFORD — The Wilkins Community House will hold its monthly community potluck supper at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 17. All are welcome.

The Community House is located in Waterford Flat on Plummer Hill Road behind the village green next door to the church. The hosts for this supper are Martha Eaton and Sara Stockwell. This will be the last supper until the fall. Bring a friend and a dish to share.
