CANTON — Lakeside resident Molly Elliott spoke to selectmen Thursday night about her concern about dogs and missing signs on the town beach next to Route 140.

Elliott said there used to be a sign on the beach giving the name of Lake Anasagunticook and noting no dogs are allowed. She said dogs are scaring children and owners are not cleaning up after their pets.

“I go around with a pooper-scooper several times a week and clean up the beach myself,” Elliott said.

Selectman Donald Hutchins said he would see if the water district could come up with some signs, and Selectman Jackie Conant said she would check with the Parks Department to see if they could get some signs as well.

Elliott said she her family have made two benches for swimmers to use and she likes to keep the beach nice. She said there were several tires near the culvert at the beach and they needed to be removed.

Selectman Shane Gallant said he would haul off the tires if she could get them out of the lake. They agreed on a time to take care of this issue.

In other news, Lena Hann from Androscoggin Bank spoke to the board about free services the bank had to offer to municipalities.

Administrative Assistant Harry Childs said they had great services.

Hutchins asked what the town was paying now for bank services and Childs said it was about $1,200 last year.

The board will study the information from Hann before making a decision to change banks.

Russ Tracy came to the meeting to complain about his driveway being washed away from runoff from town property on the upper side of his property. Hutchins and Gallant said they would check out the problem this weekend and work on a solution.

A property tax abatement was granted to Bruce Bryant on some of his tree growth land that had not been changed on the books. The abatement was for $842.71.
