AUBURN — Joey R. McLafferty, 77, of Rangeley died Wednesday, May 9, at Hospice House.

He was born in Rumford on June 8, 1934, the son of Joseph and Lurlene McLafferty. He graduated from Rangeley High School in 1952, the University of Maine at Orono in 1956 and the University of Connecticut in Storres, Conn., in 1959. He graduated from the Army Medical School as a second lieutenant February 19, 1960. He served as a pharmacist at the Army Medical Center.

Joey spent most of his adult life working side by side with his mother and father at the family-owned Riddle’s Pharmacy. Joey was the town’s pharmacist for 47 years.

He was a member of the Rotary Club and he served as President of the Chamber of Commerce. He was a member and chairman of the Town of Rangeley School Board. He also served as chairman of the Board of Appeals. He was awarded the Rangeley Community Service Award in 1973.

Among Joey’s many interests were skiing, playing golf with his friends and being an avid sports fan. He watched the Celtics, the Red Sox, the Patriots and professional golf.

Survivors include his sisters, Brenda Manchester of Mechanic Falls and Susan Coombs of Durham, N.H., his brother, James McLafferty; and wife, Diane, of Auburn; and a large extended family. He was predeceased by his parents.
