LOVELL — The western Maine chapter of the Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine will host a tour of the Duncan Howlett woodlot at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 19.

Foresters Don Feeney and Greg Seamans will lead an inspection of the 106-acre SWOAM white pine stand to view the regeneration of the lot thinned in 2005. The land is flat and most of the one-mile walk will be on skid and truck roads. Plans and ideas for future treatments will be discussed.

From the North Waterford side, take the Five Kezars Road across from Melby’s store and travel five miles into Lovell. From the Route 5 end in Lovell, take the Eastman Hill Road 3.7 miles to the Old Waterford Road. The Howlett woodlot is 2 miles in.

Coffee and doughnuts will be available at 8:30 a.m. and signs will be posted. For more information, contact Don Feeney at 665-2475.

Howlett, of Lovell, was the founder of SWOAM in 1975.
