A group of local young people, most home from college for the summer, checked out the Paul Bunyan statue in Eugene Boivin Memorial Park on Monday afternoon. Hollie Theriault, of Rumford, a student at the University of Maine at Augusta, said the group often hangs out in the park, but had never really gotten close to the statue. “It’s big,” she said. Julie Bouchard, a Quebec City, P.Q., resident, was traveling with a group of 10 from New Hampshire Monday afternoon. The group took a rest break at the Eugene Boivin Memorial Park before continuing on their travels.
