LOVELL — The Brick Church for the Performing Arts will welcome home singer-songwriter Heather Masse with Jed Wilson for an evening of jazz, folk and blues on Thursday, June 7.

The concert will help raise funds to rebuild the church belfry.

The duo performs in theaters and venues across the country, and has had spots on Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion.”

Masse, who is based in New York, grew up in rural Maine and trained at the New England Conservatory of Music as a jazz singer.

A member of the Billboard-charting folk  group The Wailin’ Jennys, she has performed at top venues, sharing the stage with the likes of Elvis Costello, Wynton Marsalis, Sheryl Crow, Bruce Cockburn, Joan Osborne, Bruce Hornsby and the Boston Pops Orchestra.

Masse’s many recordings include her solo debut album, “Bird Song,” in 2009. The Wailin’ Jennys’ newest recording, “Bright Morning Stars,” released in February 2011, features original songs from all three members of the band and was nominated for a Juno Award.

Recently, Masse’s song “Bird Song” from “Bright Morning Stars” won first prize in the duo/group category from the International Acoustic Music Awards.

Now a resident of Lovell, Wilson grew up in Gladstone, Ore., and began studying piano at a young age. As a teen, he was an active performer on the Portland, Ore., jazz scene and won prestigious awards, including Downbeat Magazine’s Best High School Jazz Soloist honor three consecutive years.

Wilson received a bachelor’s degree in jazz performance from New England Conservatory in 2004. While a student, he formed a long-standing musical partnership with renowned jazz vocalist and NEC faculty member Dominique Eade. The duo has toured widely and in 2006 released a critically acclaimed CD.  Boston Globe reviewer Bill Beuttler wrote, “Wilson’s piano work, skilled and subtle, made plain why a guy so young has become Eade’s duo partner of choice.”

Wilson teaches jazz piano at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham and at Mountain Top Music, and plays organ for local church congregations.

Masse and Wilson have been performing together for more than 10 years. Their collaboration has resulted in two albums; and in 2008, Masse released “Many Moons,” an EP of jazz-inspired folk duets with Wilson.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Brick Church for the Performing Arts on Christian Hill Road. Tickets, $15, will be available at the door; refreshments will be served at intermission. For more information, call 925-2792 or visit www.lovellbrickchurch.org.
