Aldermen took up the “garbage question” at their meeting to consider a petition from the grocers of Auburn that something be done toward the disposal of food waste stuffs from their stores. The grocers suggested a cart, owned and operated by the city, but showed willingness to care for the garbage if the city would only supply a place to put it. In following discussion, it was debated if it is advisable to have a trap door in the North bridge, thru which to dump the garbage. Alderman Auger asked if the plan would not have some disagreeable features in the summer when the water became low. He suggested that certain hours could be allotted for dumping.
