The book club members did what all teenage girls like to do – eat and talk. The book club had dinner with Lord at the Far East Restaurant. The club raised money for the dinner by cashing in on returnable cans and bottles.
“It was awesome to have dinner with her – the first time I’ve ever met a real author,” said Senior Tabby Widger.
Junior Erika Thibodeau said, “At dinner, we got to ask questions that we might not have been able to ask at the meeting.”
Then the members of the book club interacted with Lord at a formal presentation at Mountain Valley Middle School. Amy Ryder, MVMS librarian, arranged the event, including the presentation.
Thibodeau said, “We listened to the presentation on what it’s like to be an author and the new books she is working on.”
In terms of the book, both young women liked it. “I could relate to the book knowing that it’s hard to make friends,” said Thibodeau. “Even though I don’t have a handicapped sibling, I know siblings might do or say things to embarrass you and that can be difficult with friends.”
