PARIS — The annual Memorial Day celebration will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 27, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, 477 High St.
“This is a very important celebration to remember the many soldiers who we have lost, and to honor the many veterans we have residing in this facility and in our community,” said Gene Bickford, co-chairman of the Western Maine Veterans’ Advisory Committee.
The celebration is co-sponsored by the facility and WMVAC. WMVAC works continually throughout the year to provide additional activities and entertainment to the 90 residents at the home.
Guest speaker for this year’s program will be Mr. Kelly Kash, CEO of the Maine Veterans’ Home. An Air Force veteran himself, he brings a vast amount of empathy and understanding of veterans to his position with the corporation. An invocation will be given by The Rev. Larry Austin, employee at the facility, and a reading of General Logan’s Order No. 11 will be done by Gil Turner, chaplain of the American Legion Post 72.
Other aspects of the program will be placement of flowers on the Gold Star Mothers memorial stone and posting of the colors by the American Legion Post 82.
The public is invited to the service. Refreshments will be served, and tours of the facility will be available. For more information, call 743-6300, or visit www.mainevets.org.
