LISBON FALLS — Norman E. Fournier, 79, died unexpectedly on May 22, at his home.

He was born in Lewiston, May 19, 1933, the son of Paul and Juliette Morin Fournier. On Jan. 20, 1960, Norm and Peggy Danse were married in Wethersfield, Conn., a marriage that lasted 52 years. They were fortunate to have two beautiful children, Jane and Jimmy.

Norm’s newspaper career began in high school, writing sports news for St. Dom’s. After a year at Portland Junior College and four years in the Air Force, he returned to Maine and resumed his career, first reporting for (Lisbon) The Weekly News and later spending several years at City Hall, reporting for the Portland Press Herald, at which time he and his family lived in Portland.

Eventually they returned to Lisbon Falls, where he started his own printing and publishing business. He also started a weekly Lisbon paper, The Post Enterprise, which he kept until retirement.

Norm was always community minded and worked with others to promote and revitalize the downtown areas of the town. In the early years, he belonged to the Lisbon Junior Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Rotary Club for many years. He was also instrumental in reviving the Lisbon Historical Society and provided archive space and serving as president for several years.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy; a daughter, Jane and her husband, Dave D’Andrea; a granddaughter, Amanda and her husband, Joe Carioscia; three sisters, Priscilla Fournier, Claire Mick (Don) and Lorraine Cloutier (Ray); three brothers, Dick Fournier (Lorraine), Don Fournier (Lucille) and Robert Fournier (Debra); and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his son, Jim Fournier.
