NEW VINEYARD — A New Portland couple was injured Friday morning after the sport utility vehicle they were riding in rolled over on Route 27, Maine State Police Trooper Aaron Turcotte said.
Driver James Heichel, 71, was southbound on Route 27 in New Vineyard when the vehicle crossed the centerline and the driver over-corrected and the vehicle went off the road and rolled over, Turcotte said.
Heichel and his passenger, his wife, Jane, 70, were taken by NorthStar Emergency Medical Service ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, he said.
Their injuries were considered non-life-threatening, he said.
Turcotte was assisted at the scene by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and New Portland Fire Department.
The vehicle was damaged beyond repair, Turcotte said.
