JAY — Casidee Couture’s bunt single toward first base scored Kathryn Ventrella with winning run in the bottom of the 15th inning to lift Spruce Mountain to a 6-5 win over Monmouth in MVC softball action Friday.
With the score tied at 2-2 after 12 innings, both teams began each subsequent frame with a runner on second base. After the Mustangs (13-2) scratched for a run in the top of the 15th, Ventrella plated Paula Depres with the tying run on a double to right center. Ventrella took third on the throw before crossing home one batter later.
The Phoenix (11-4) rallied for single runs in both the 13th and 14th innings, both times tying the game with two outs. A Ventrella double knotted things in the 13th while Emily Keene’s RBI single did the trick in the 14th.
Monmouth pitcher Reen Kahl (13-2) fanned 21 batters. She also helped herself by belting a pair of doubles and a two-run homer. Depres went the distance for the win.
Telstar 9, Winthrop 7
BETHEL — Maisey Griffen keyed an 8-run fourth inning with a two-run double to lead Telstar past Winthrop 9-7 in an MVC softball game Friday.
With Winthrop (4-10) up, 5-0, heading into the bottom of the fourth, Griffen started the inning by doubling. The Rebels (7-6) took advantage of Winthrop starter Amy Belanger’s wildness with four walks and a hit batter in the frame. Belanger (4-10) would finish with 11 strikeouts while walking 11.
Griffen knocked in two runs with her second double of the inning while Tasha Farnum added a two-run single and Rachael Wheeler drove in a pair with a double to left.
Jessica Dirago (7-6) went the distance for Telstar to pick up the win.
Randi Dennett paced the Ramblers with a double for one of her two hits.
Leavitt 10, Gardiner 6
GARDINER — Shelby St. Pierre’s two-run single to left-center in the top of the sixth helped Leavitt capture a 10-6 softball win over Gardiner Friday.
The Hornets (11-4) led 5-0 after one. Melissa Richardson’s two-run single was the key hit in the opening frame. Both St. Pierre and Richardson totaled three RBIs on the day.
Gardiner (8-7) answered with six runs in the bottom of the fifth with Kelsey Moody’s safety knocking in a pair of runs. Adrie Newton (10-2) picked up the win while Kristal Smith suffered the loss.
Mt. Ararat 10,
Oxford Hills 4
PARIS — Dana Green and Shauna Williams both knocked home a pair of runs in a decisive third inning as Mt. Ararat beat Oxford Hills 10-4 in a KVAC softball game Friday.
Green plated a pair of runs with a single and Shauna Williams scored two on her triple to right center. Williams finished with two triples. Kim Leslie earned the win.
The Vikings (10-5) were led offensively by Breanna Martin and Angel Witham who each drove in a run. Crystal West (10-5) was tagged with the loss.
Dirigo 15, Wiscasset 0
WISCASSET— Alyssa Wade allowed three hits in a shutout victory and added four hits at the plate to lead Dirigo to a 15-0 win over Wiscasset in softball action Friday.
Mariah Larsen also contributed four hits for the Cougars (9-6), who pounded out a 20-hit attack. Alyssa Charity added three hits while Natalie Bolduc and Tasha DeRoche each chipped in with a pair of hits.
Sydney Morin went the distance in the loss for the Wolverines (7-8).
Skowhegan 10,
Mt. Blue 3
SKOWEHGAN — Andrea Quirion launched a home run as Skowhegan jostled Mt. Blue 10-3 in softball action Friday.
The Indians (10-6) led off the game with three runs and continued to post runs in every following inning except the second. The pitcher, Taylor Johnson, had a single and a triple, while Kaitlyn Therriualt recorded a single and double for Skowhegan.
The Cougars (1-14) attempted a last hurrah in the top of the seventh, but only came away with three runs in the frame. The pitcher, Nicole Osborne manufactured a game-high three hits for Mt. Blue in the losing effort.
Madison 13, Lisbon 6
LISBON — Kayla Booker produced a single and triple for three RBIs to lead Madison to an 13-6 triumph over Lisbon in softball action Friday.
The Greyhounds (8-4) drew first blood with a pair of runs in the first ining. But, the Bulldogs responded with three runs in each of the next two innings to alter the momentum.
Brooke Lawrence went 3-for-4 and collected three RBIs for Lisbon. The Greyhounds made eight fielding errors and left 10 on base, much of the cause for going down in defeat.
Madison was leading only by a pair in the top of the seventh when they added five more points to the margin.
Emily McKenney struck out seven and earned the mound win for the Bulldogs.
Rangeley, Richmond split
LIVERMORE FALLS — Rangeley rebounded from a sloppy performance in Game 1 to hand Richmond its first loss of the season in Game 2 as the top two teams in the Western Class D softball Heal Points split a doubleheader on Friday.
Rangeley committed eight errors and surrendered 13 hits to drop the opener, 14-0. Brianna Snedeker led the Richmond onslaught with three hits, while Ciarra Lancaster, Danica Hurley and Jamie Plummer added two hits apiece. Jenney Abbott had a double for Rangeley.
Leandra Martin picked up the win for the Bobcats by scattering four hits and walking no one while striking out nine.
Rangeley got to Martin for nine hits in the second game to salvage the split with a 9-5 win. Sandra Campbell and Seve Deery-DeRaps came through with runners on base, each cracking two singles and drive in three runs. Tori Letarte added two hits and an RBI and Ellie Brooks had a two-run single for the Lakers (10-3). Chantal Carrier earned the win with four strikeouts and two walks while surrendering six hits.
Lindsey Hoopingarner smacked a pair of solo home runs for the Bobcats (13-1).
Oak Hill 5, Morse 0
WALES — Kortni Michaud gave up only two hits and struck out five batters, directing Oak Hill to a 5-0 victory over Morse in a softball game Friday.
The Raiders (9-7) built a 4-0 lead after two innings. Alyssa Rouleau slapped a two-run triple in the first inning, and catcher Brooke LeBel hammered a one-run triple in the sixth inning.
