I am writing to express a very serious concern.

My wife and I, and 43 other households, live in a very nice retirement community in Turner, called Hillview Estates. It is next to Twitchell’s Airport on Route 4.

Several years ago, the Maine Department of Transportation made a traffic pattern change in front of our park entrance that made it very dangerous for people in our community.

A turning middle lane was added that greatly reduced our entering and exiting space.

Because of those changes, many close calls have occurred since then. Last year there was a fatal accident in front of the park entrance that upset everyone living here.

The park owner and I went to the MDOT office and asked if something could be done to reduce the danger at the park entrance. After a period of discussion, we were informed that by removing the pillar lights at the entrance, the department could fill the bank on one side and gradually widen the entering and exiting lanes to make it safer.

We were very encouraged by that. Recently, however, we were informed that nothing will be done.

I am very disappointed in the MDOT.

They should understand that preserving lives should always be a top priority.
