LEWISTON – Melvin J. Long, 60, of Lewiston, died at his residence  Sunday, May 27, following a long battle with muscular dystrophy.

He was born in Fort Kent on Jan. 27, 1952, the son of Hector and Elizabeth (Charette) Long. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Melvin loved his family and believed in and loved God. He will be sadly missed by all. He was the strongest man we all knew. He had a heart of gold.

He is survived by his two daughters, Stacey Long and Angela Berry and her husband, Scott; a granddaughter, Caitlin; three brothers, Roland, Reynold and Lewellyn Long; and three sisters, Theresa Nadeau, Jackie Thibeault and Jean Grimmel.

He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Joan Deschaine.
