RUMFORD — Robert L. Hutchins, 80, died Tuesday, May 22,  at the Rumford Hospital. He was a resident of Rumford Point.

Born in Rumford Point on April 11, 1932, he was a son of Clarence and Laura (Woods) Hutchins. He was a graduate of Stephens High School in Rumford, with the Class of 1952.

He served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years as a technicla sergeant until his retirement in 1969. He then worked for Stowell-McGregor Wood Products in Dixfield from 1972 to 1980. He then worked for James Knight General Contractor as a carpenter from 1980 to 1994, when he retired.

Robert was a member of Oxford Bear Lodge No. 54, K of P, where he was a past chancellor commander several times over the years; Rumford Falls Aerie No. 1248, FOE; life member of VFW in Lake Wales, Fla.; member of Moose Lake, Wales, Fla. and formerly active with the Rumford Point Volunteer Fire Dept.

Survivors include three sons, Bruce of Jay, John of Standish and James of Virginia Beach, Va.; a sister, Ethel Thibodeau and her husband, Donald of Mexico; six grandchildren, Matthew and Craig Hutchins of Standish, Shelley and Nicholas Hutchins of Jay and Chrissy and Tommy Hutchins of Virginia Beach, Va.; two great-grandchildren, Lilly and Andrew; and his companion, Serena Enman of Canton.
