AUGUSTA — A 12-year-old Turner resident was recently honored by Gov. Paul LePage and state legislators for raising funds for charity.
Molly McCormick was presented a legislative sentiment on April 9 for raising $8,500 over the last two years. Some of her efforts include the sale of $1,600 in chocolate Easter bunnies last spring in order to raise money for Tripp Middle School in Turner and the Good Shepherd Food-Bank in Auburn.
Last fall, she raised $3,600 in five days so her school could purchase magazines for sick children at the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital. Another cause she has adopted is Operation Smile, which provides surgeries for children with facial deformities.
Molly has been inspired to help others as a result of her own family’s experiences with an illness that she endured.
Molly and her parents, Dan and Wanda, were guests at the Capitol for the day.
