FARMINGTON — The Franklin County 4-H Fair will take place on Saturday, June 2, at the Farmington Fairgrounds to provide 4-H members the opportunity to learn about the projects that are available in the program and to interact with other members and clubs in the county.

In the barn area, there will be demonstrations by some of the large animal 4-H groups, such as beef, dairy and horse, throughout the day. Goats and sheep will also be on exhibit. The schedule also includes contests and workshops.

Dave Fuller, agriculture and non-timber forest products professional at the Franklin County Extension Office, and Debra Kantor, educator from the Somerset County Extension office, will present an educational program for youth and interested adults called “Money Can Grow on Trees.” Making “birch bark whistles” will be a featured hands-on activity for youth.

Other workshops will include “Easy Jam in Minutes” and photography. Several 4-H clubs will host craft workshops such as “The Braiding Wheel.” There will also be a workshop focusing on activities for the “Cloverbud” group, ages 5 to 8. Children must be accompanied by an adult. A “Garden Angels” window boxes workshop for a seniors gardening project will take place.

For youth interested in archery, a certified archery instructor will be on hand to teach safety procedures and give participants an opportunity to try their hand at a bow and arrow.

There will be three contests open to the public: Photo Contest, Decorated Hat Contest and Baking Contest. Divisions for all contests are ages 5-8, ages 9-11, ages 12-14, ages 15-18 and adult.
