AUBURN — Louis V. Palumbaro III, 70, of Farmington, passed away Thursday, May 31, at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn.

He was born March 8, 1942, in Tarrytown, N.Y., a son of Louis V. and Grace A. Levi Palumbaro II.

He was educated in the schools of Ossining, N.Y. before entering the U.S. Army. Louis worked as a mechanic for Vanguard Tours in Ossining, N.Y. for many years. In 1986 he moved to Maine and married Jeanette Smith in 1987 in Farmington. They made their home on the Porter Hill Road. Louis went to work for the State of Maine Department of Transportation,  from which he retired in 2009. He enjoyed hunting, camping, tinkering on golf carts, and caring for his grandson, Christian, for 14 years.

Louis is survived by his wife, Jeanette Palumbaro; his daughters, Louann Palumbaro and Cheryl Palumbaro, both of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; his son, Vincent L. Palumbaro of  Virginia Beach, Va.; his stepdaughter, Janine Smith of Jacksonville, Fla.; and three stepsons, Jeffrey Smith and his wife, Lori of Trivoli, Ill., Justin Smith of Portland, Ore., and James Smith and his wife, Casey of Ogden, Utah; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his brother, Michael Palumbaro of Philadelphia, Pa.; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his aunt, Mae Giglio.
