Tim Williams, center, 24, of Norway celebrates his one-bite win over officer Craig Johnson of the Lewiston Police Department during the annual doughnut-eating contest at Dunkin’ Donuts on the corner of Main Street and Strawberry Avenue in Lewiston on Friday. “We try to play off the stereotype with cops and doughnuts,” Johnson said. The event is a fundraiser for the Special Olympics, whose Summer Games will kick off with a cross-state torch run Wednesday, June 6. The games will be held June 8-10 in Orono. The doughnut-eating contest included Auburn police, Maine State Police, Androscoggin County Sheriff’s deputies and two Special Olympics athletes. The event raised more than $1,000, half of which came from torch sales and a donation from store owner Norm Boulay. The fundraiser coincided with National Doughnut Day.
