FARMINGTON — Franklin County Budget Committee members will hold a public hearing on their $5.35 million proposal at 6 p.m. Monday, June 4, in the courtroom at the Franklin County Courthouse.

The committee plans to vote on the 2012-13 spending package at 4 p.m.  Thursday, June 7, in the courtroom.

Franklin County commissioners’ budget is proposed at $5.29 million, a $61,800 difference between the two plans. About $1.6 million of the budget is to operate the jail. Those figures do not factor in anticipated revenues of $580,600 to offset the budget.

The commission’s proposal is $56,647 more than the current $5.23 million budget. The Budget Committee’s recommendation is $118,447 more than this year’s budget.

The major difference between the proposals is the Budget Committee added a new department for debt service and appropriated $60,000 for it, county Clerk Julie Magoon said previously.

County commissioners did not factor in money for debt service at the time they voted on their budget proposal.

The debt money would be used for the the new dispatch center building. Voters in each town in the county will decide Tuesday, June 12, if they want to authorize commissioners to take out a bond for $598,300 to build a new dispatch center on county property. It would be built across from the current Franklin County Sheriff’s Department building where dispatchers work now.

The interest on 15-year bond is anticipated to be $189,479.76, bringing the total cost for the project to $787,779. The exact interest rate is not known now.
