LEWISTON — Koren Burris, 52, died May 26, of complications from lung cancer, at the Androscoggin Hospice Center, with her loving family at her bedside.
Koren was a 1978 graduate of Lewiston High School. She attended the University of Southern Maine in Gorham and was an employee of Bates College in Lewiston. Koren was a woman of letters and member of the long tradition of women writers in Maine. Koren loved books, the ocean, especially Popham Beach, the fall season, her family and especially her beloved cat, Lily.
She is survived by her brother, Ken Burris and his wife, Laurey of Shelburne, Vt., her sister, Kellie Theriault and her husband, Dan of Auburn, her sister, Koleen Major and her husband, Kevin of Mechanic Falls; nieces and nephews, Nathanael, Jennifer, Zachary, Hannah, Justin and Kourtney; and numerous cousins, both in Maine and around the country.
She is predeceased by her mother, Shirley Dowling of Auburn and her father, Kenneth Burris of Pensacola, Fla.
