Your editorial of May 30, “Somewhere between fraud and vindication,” was right on.
There is an on-going 32-unit low income project in Farmington currently in front of the Planning Board. It is to be partly funded by the USDA, as supervised by Maine State Housing Authority and our town planners and selectmen.
The catch is this: The project is located in the wellhead protection zone, a recharge area for the town water system.
I find it contradictory that the USDA plans to provide a $500,000 block grant to the town and developers for road, sewer and water systems.
It is very possible that the project could compromise the quality of Farmington’s town water supply.
The code enforcement officer never advised our five selectmen that the project, as proposed, is located in wellhead protection. Without that knowledge, our selectmen agreed to act as the escrow agents and distribute funds regarding pipe and general contractor charges.
My question: Has full disclosure regarding “wellhead protection” been provided to MSHA and USDA?
