Regarding the article,“Will bill capping MaineCare reimbursement for methadone treatment jeopardize addicts’ recovery?” (May 27), please allow me to clarify the services offered to MaineCare-covered methadone patients by Western Maine Transportation Services.
Since the new Lewiston methadone clinic began accepting patients, Western Maine Transportation Services has been providing either transportation, or mileage reimbursement, to that clinic or to the Waterville methadone clinic, whichever is closest for the particular patient being served.
If any methadone patient requesting transportation lives closer to another clinic, such as Westbrook or Portland, we would provide either transportation, or mileage reimbursement to the nearest facility, by the least expensive appropriate method.
If a patient chooses to go to a different methadone clinic, Western Maine Transportation Services will only reimburse mileage to the nearest facility, in accordance with Maine Department of Health and Human Services rules.
