BUCKFIELD — Interim Town Manager Dana Lee was formally hired Tuesday night as the Board of Selectmen signed his contract. His first official day as town manager will be July 1.

Lee’s contract is for two years and begins July 1. There is a six-month probation after which either party can terminate the agreement subject to the contract conditions. His annual salary will be $49,000 with two weeks vacation each year after the probation period.

Lee has been interim manager since Glenn Holmes resigned to become director of the Western Maine Economic Development Council last December. Lee was formerly town manager in Poland and Mechanic Falls.

In other business, the board:

* Accepted a bid from Octagon Cleaning and Restoration in Windham for mold removal and from Steamatic for preventative measures at the Zadoc Long Free Library for a total of $11,486.64. The board agreed to take up to $6,000 from an emergency fund so work could begin by June 25.

* Accepted a fireworks ordinance.

* Scheduled a hearing on amendments to the General Assistance Ordinance for 6 p.m. June 19.

* Approved hiring a third person for the Public Works Department.

* Approved a request from the Recreation Department to allow people from Hartford and Sumner to serve on their board, which has four people. The summer sports program serves as many as 100 children.

* Announced that no one has offered to head up a Labor Day celebration.

* Announced that the American Legion and volunteer Rusty Brown will repair the bricks and base of the World War II monument in the center of town.
