PORTLAND — A Turner man escaped injury Wednesday morning when his well-drilling truck left the Maine Turnpike and struck a median guardrail, according to police.
Just before 9 a.m., Jesse Goodwin, 34, who was heading southbound, had a tire blow on his rig, causing him to lose control and hit a guardrail, according to Trooper Shawn Currie of the Maine State Police.
Goodwin, who was heading to Westbrook, was not injured in the crash, which occurred around mile marker 50, the trooper said.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident, Currie said, and given the volume of traffic it was fortunate no other cars were hit.
“There was heavy traffic because it’s that time of day but it wasn’t bumper to bumper,” said Currie, who said the guardrail prevented Goodwin from crossing into northbound traffic.
Goodwin’s rig, which is owned by Goodwin Well and Water, suffered significant damage. Dirt covered the highway, forcing police to reduce traffic to one lane in both directions.
