BETHEL — Kyle Peterson scattered four hits and drew ample run support as Telstar hustled to a 13-1 victory over Lisbon in tournament quarterfinal baseball action Thursday.

Casey Thornton’s two-run double in the second ignited a six-run rally by the Rebels (12-3). Dan Whitney smashed a Grand Slam home run shortly after to cap a huge frame. Thornton finished with three hits and three RBIs, while Corey Howard poubed out a pair of hits.

Ryan Riordan worked the first two frames for the Greyhounds (8-8) and took the loss.

Falmouth 7, Spruce Mountain 3

FALMOUTH — Drew Proctor sparked a five-run third inning for Falmouth as they raced away to post a 7-3 win over Spruce Mountain in more quarterfinal baseball action Thursday.

Tom Fortier scattered four hits for Falmouth (14-3), while Proctor and Grayson Duressi both had key hits in that big third inning.

Gavin Jones led the Phoenix (12-6) with two hits, including an RBI double in the fifth. Eli Capern went the distance and suffered just his third loss of 2012.

Softball

Dirigo 7, Hall-Dale 1

DIXFIELD — Alyssa Wade scattered eight hits and received ample run support as Dirigo put an end to Hall-Dale’s 2012 campaign with a 7-1 victory in another quarterfinal softball tilt Thursday.

Wade helped her own cause for the fourth-seeded Cougars with two hits and one RBI. Catcher Alyssa Charity with a two-run double, while Tasha DeRoche belted a triple and a double with two RBIs.

Caroline Wolfington led Hall-Dale with two hits, while Olivia Maynard pounded out a single and a double. Maynard also handled pitching duties and was tagged with the loss.

Lisbon 4, Telstar 3

LISBON — Olivia Harrington bunted down the first base line to score Jenna Clifford for the walk-off win as Lisbon edged Telstar 4-3 in the first round of softball playoffs Thursday.

Bailey Madore got things started in the Greyhound’s seventh inning by reaching first base on an error. Monica Austin laid down a bunt that the pitcher threw over the first baseman’s head, advancing the runners to second and third.

Haley Eck singled in Madore for the first run of the inning. Jenna Clifford comes in to pinch run for Eck. Kailin Hill bunts in Austin, while Clifford advanced to third.

In turn, Harrington bunted down the first base line to plate Clifford for the game winning run.

Rachel Wheeler was perfect at the plate with three of the Rebel’s five hits.

Oxford Hills 7, Erskine 2

SOUTH CHINA — Jordyn Sanborn executed a squeeze bunt perfectly in the top of the fourth inning, providing Oxford Hills with the springboard it needed as the No. 5 Vikings rallied from an early two-run deficit and upended No. 4 Erskine Academy, 7-2, in the teams’ Eastern Class A quarterfinal matchup.

Breanna Martin slugged a double and a triple, the latter coming to lead off a five-run fourth inning for the Vikings, who advance to face top-seeded Cony at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Pitcher Crystal West and Sanborn also had doubles for Oxford Hills in the victory.

Catcher Meryl Bond and Mikhaela Helm led the way for the Eagles with a double each. Bond also added a single. Alyssa Gartley took the loss for Erskine.

Fryeburg 7, Lake Region 0

FRYEBURG — Sarah Harriman struck out 11 in a one-hit performance Thursday as Fryeburg rolled to a 7-0 victory over Lake Region in Western Class B quarterfinal action.

Maggie McConkey put Fryeburg (16-1) on the board early with a three-run homer in the first frame. Maddie Pearson went 3-for-4 including a double, while Carla Tripp belted a pair of hits for the Raiders.

Samantha Marucci was credited with Lake Region’s (9-9) lone hit, while Allison Clark gave up eight hits and struck out five.
