NEW GLOUCESTER — The SkyStreakers model airplane club, will host their second annual open house from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at their field off Bald Hill Road. Rain date is June 10.

The group will have several training aircraft and instructors available to give free introductory flights to anyone who wishes. There will be special demo flights throughout the day featuring turbine powered jets, helicopters, giant scale aerobatic airplanes and more. Refreshments will also be available throughout the day.

The nonprofit organization has been an active flying club in the community for nearly 30 years. SkyStreakers is a base for all model aviation enthusiasts; men, women and children of all ages. Formal training sessions are held every Wednesday evening all summer long for those that want to learn to fly radio controlled airplanes and helicopters. Training is also open to the public to anyone that wants to try their hand at R/C a couple of times before making the investment in their own aircraft.

For the second year running, a “Youth in Aviation” program has been very successful. The program is aimed at helping youngsters with an interest in aviation to be able to build and fly model aircraft that otherwise couldn’t afford it.

Every year the SkyStreakers hold many events and gatherings, all open to the public, which attract fellow modelers from all over the county.
