It is difficult to understand what the city of Auburn is looking for to help the city to grow. The City Council did not approve the changes that would allow a hotel to be built on the Martindale property.

Maybe the neighborhood residents would prefer to have James Day change the golf course to a great-location housing project. As a local businessman, he is always looking for improvements.

More than 20 years ago, the Day family and a Mr. Mollison closed Lewiston Raceway, which had been in operation for almost 100 years. Their first project was building the bowling center, with more to come. Presently, there are 10 additional businesses on that property.

Day was looking for the Martindale property to be zoned to support a hotel on his land. The narrow vision of the City Council stops another addition to the city tax roll.

The neighbors in the Martindale area should expect that there will be changes around that location since Day is now the owner and change is always in his vision.

Time will tell.
