MECHANIC FALLS — Voters approved a $2.4 million budget Tuesday to operate the town for the new fiscal year, beginning July 1.

The approved budget calls for $1,303,776 to be raised through local property taxes — an amount that is about $19,000 lower than what it took to support this year’s budget.

The budget was divided into 32 separate articles, all of which were approved by what assistant Town Clerk Shirley Marquis described as relatively comfortable margins.

Votes on individual articles ranged from a high approval rate of 175 to 42 all the way to votes as close as 129 to 80.

This is the second year that Mechanic Falls voters have approved their budget by a referendum vote after abandoning voting in the traditional town meeting format.

There were no contests for any of the elective office positions.
