FARMINGTON — Franklin County voters approved a $598,300 bond for a new dispatch center Tuesday by 27 votes. The tally was 2,062 to 2,035.
Avon, Carrabassett Valley, Chesterville, Eustis, Farmington, Industry, New Vineyard, Rangeley, Temple, Weld and Wilton voters all approved the center.
Voters in Carthage, Coplin Plantation, Dallas Plantation, Jay, Kingfield, Madrid Township, New Sharon, Phillips, Rangeley Plantation and Strong rejected it.
The county Budget Committee, commissioners and Building Committee all stood behind the project, which is to be built across from the Sheriff Department office on County Way.
The principal cost would not exceed $598,300 for the stand-alone, 2,200-square-foot center. The 15-year bond would have an approximate interest rate of 3.81 percent, and the cost would be $189,479.76. The total debt service for the project is estimated at $787,779.76.
