FARMINGTON — Republican candidate Scott Nichols of New Sharon was leading Thomas White of Jay, also a Republican, Tuesday to represent the Republican Party in November’s Franklin County Sheriff’s race.
Only some towns had reported results in.
By 11:30 p.m. Nichols had received 1,257 votes to White’s 676 votes.
The winner will face Sheriff Dennis Pike of Farmington, who is seeking re-election to the position in the November election.
Farmington residents voted in favor of Nichols in a 403 to 148 vote.
Eustis voters voted also favored Nichols by a 41 to 13 vote.
Townspeople in Weld cast 32 ballots for Nichols and 15 for White.
Rangeley Plantation deadlocked in a 10-10 vote for the candidates.
Temple voters favored Nichols by a 27-12 vote. Chesterville residents gave Nichols 73 votes to 28 votes for White.
Wilton residents cast 213 ballots for Nichols and 134 ballots for White.
Madrid Township residents voted 7-5 in favor of White.
Jay residents also favored White by a vote of 136-73. Rangeley voters approved of Nichols representing the Party by a 70-61 vote.
Nichols is the police chief of Carrabassett Valley, and a retired Maine State Police sergeant,
White is a detective with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department in Farmington.
