AUBURN — Central Maine Orthopaedics physician Dr. Paul Cain was named one of the top orthopaedic physicians in the state, according to the May edition of Downeast Magazine.

More than 2,000 physicians from around the state were asked to recommend the specialists they would choose if they or a family member had a health problem. Four specialists were selected for each category. Dr. Cain was the only physician in the orthopaedic category from the Central Maine area.

Cain is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with various areas of specialty, including sports medicine, arthroscopic and open surgery of the shoulder and knee, knee ligament reconstruction, and cartilage restoration. He joined Central Maine Orthopaedics in 1987, and served as president of the CMO from 2007 to 2011. He currently serves as chairman of the Central Maine Orthopaedics board of directors.

Since the inception of the Sports Medicine program at Central Maine Orthopaedics in 1987, Dr. Cain has grown it into a comprehensive program, including preventative programs, community educational seminars, game coverage, and involvement with local teams at the high school, collegiate and professional levels.

Dr. Cain serves on the medical staff at Central Maine Medical Center and Rumford Hospital’s courtesy medical staff. He performs surgery at CMMC in the Orthopaedic Institute of Central Maine, St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, and CMO’s Ambulatory Surgery Center. He is also available for consultation at the CMO Orthopaedic Clinic at Rumford Hospital. Dr. Cain also serves as team physician for Bates College and served as team physician for the now disbanded Lewiston MAINEiacs hockey team.
