MEXICO — Selectmen on Tuesday reviewed an agreement with neighboring Rumford for the joint purchase of a ladder truck, which is due to arrive soon.
The $498,000 deal for a 2008 Pierce Aerial truck from Brindlee Mountain, Ala., is expected to go through in a matter of days.
Town Manager John Madigan said delivery is expected within a month. It will be housed at the Rumford Fire Department.
The aerial ladder truck will replace one in Rumford that is no longer certified and one in Mexico that will likely need replacement in a couple of years.
Mexico will pay $110,000, or about 20 percent of the total cost, using $40,000 from trading in of a pumper and $70,000 from capital reserve.
In other matters, the board agreed to renew an agreement with Roger Whitehouse Realty for his exclusive listing of the former SAD 43 central office. The property next to the Mexico Recreation Building reverted to the town when the former SAD 43 merged into RSU 10.
Selectmen set Oct. 26 and March 8 as due dates for each half of property tax payments. Any paid later will be assessed 6.5 percent annual interest.
They also appointed Cameron Barrieau, a charter member of the Mexico Police Explorers, as a reserve officer to the Police Department. He is a criminal justice major at Husson University.
They also met the newest full-time officer, Holly Pullen, formerly with the Norway Police Department.
Richard Philbrick was re-elected chairman of the board and Reggie Arsenault was re-elected vice chairman.
