At a ceremony held at the Maine Statehouse, Bilodeau was personally recognized by Maine first lady Ann LePage as Maine’s top volunteer.
Other volunteers from across the state were congratulated at the ceremony, but Bilodeau, whose has volunteered at CMMC for 27 years, earned top recognition. Her name has been added to the Roll of Honor for the 2012 Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards.
Bilodeau has given more than 4,000 hours of service to the hospital, including work at the Arbor House and the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing. She regularly volunteers as an errand runner, does patient transports, runs lab specimens and x-rays, escorts patients and does hospital tours for local preschools. She is also a member of the newly organized TenderCare volunteer program at CMMC where she provides comfort and companionship to patients who are dying or are critically or chronically ill.
Her most well-known volunteer role is that of the “CMMC Cookie Lady.” Each week she bakes assorted goodies for hospital staff, patients and the families of patients who are staying in the Arbor House or attending support groups at the Dempsey Center. She regularly delivers tins of baked goods throughout the hospital and even takes special orders from those who are in need of some “soul food.”
“She brightens the lives of so many people with each cookie,” said CMMC Volunteer Manager Sue Hedrich.
