PORTLAND — Amanda Jennifer Pleau was the student commencement speaker at the University of Southern Maine’s 132nd Commencement on May 12 in the Cumberland County Civic Center. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in media studies.

Pleau, currently of Portland, is a graduate of Lewiston High School. After attending Montserrat College of Art and Central Maine Community College, she entered USM in 2009. While at USM, she served as an intern in the USM Office of Public Affairs, was a volunteer and intern at Dress for Success Maine, a columnist for USM’s student newspaper, The Free Press, and is a board member and volunteer for the Community Television Network.

She is the daughter of Tina Pleau of Lewiston and Arthur Pleau Jr. of Auburn.

A committee of faculty, staff and students chooses the USM’s student commencement speaker each year through a competitive process.
