JAY —  RSU 73 directors will consider proposed reductions to the $18.8 million budget voters in all three towns rejected June 12.

Directors set up a budget workshop at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at the cafeteria of the Spruce Mountain Middle School in Jay, Superintendent Robert Wall said Monday.

“We have identified some areas of reduction we will propose to the board,” he said.

Residents of the three towns will be able to make recommendations on the budget during the districtwide budget meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, at the Spruce Mountain Middle School cafeteria, he said.

Voters had reduced a proposed $18.9 million budget by $203,000  June 5 to bring it down to $18.8 million.

The proposal went to a validation vote and failed in all three towns.

Jay residents voted 328-341; Livermore voters, 196-253; and Livermore Falls, 118-140.

The failed budget reflected a $410,527 increase from this year’s spending plan.

A second referendum validation vote on the budget will be held Tuesday, July 24, in each town.

State law allows the district to work under the $18.8 million budget approved in early June.
